Oscar, Bella, and Odie WIP

"Oscar, Bella, and Odie"
18X24
Oil on Canvas Panel
Commission

I hope you will forgive the glaring photo. It is 11:00 pm and I just decided to take a progress photo to send off to the person who is commissioning this painting. This is the first commission for Christmas this year. I have not done three dogs in one painting before this...and we decided on just the head shots. Oscar, the one in the middle who is mostly painted, is gone now, sadly.  Bella is the next addition on the left. And then Odie came along on the right. They are all rescue dogs much loved by the owners. It may take me a while on this one...and I am hoping the background, when I get to it, will be subtle and the dogs will still pop.

Long way to go...just thought I'd let you know I am still at the easel.  Stay tuned...

Daily Painting, "Speedo"

My son and family will be visiting soon. This is their cat, Speedo, and the photo reference for this painting was taken by my son. I wanted to get it done before they visit in order to give it to them. Speedo, according to my son, is a rascal. He has clawed the furniture and wakes them up at all the wee hours to go scavenging outdoors. To be fair to Speedo, he was a feral cat picked up by the pound and that is where my son found him. In other words, Speedo has a checkered past and learned to fend for himself at an early age.

I could have named this painting, "Halloween Cat," (Halloween in April?) due to the black and orange color palette. By the way, Speedo is all black. The light from the lamp shed a reddish gold color onto his fur and made such a statement in the photo. I am finished with this one....and on to the next.

Daily Painting, "Speedo" Underpainting

Acrylic Underpainting of "Speedo"
16X12

I don't normally do this much underpainting, but I have only had time to use some acrylics lately, so I just am trying to get some values and correct placement so far on this one. I am going to have to adjust from the photo to get rid of some ghost shadows, too. The fun part is that, on this very black cat, the light from the lamp on the left of Speedo is gold and the light on the right of him is light blue/grey.

Ha ha....silly me. I thought I would be finished yesterday, but when I sat down to paint I realised his coat needed a lot more work. He was too choppy and needed blending here and there. And then today I finally got to the hardwood floor. Ta da! He is done. If you would like a commissioned piece of your own beloved little friend, you may contact me and we'll do it!!! Thanks for sticking with me through this painting. I hope you enjoyed watching the progress. Dear Bosley will be hanging on our wall soon! He is also going to be published over at http://thepainteddog.blogspot.com which you can access at the link on the right of this page.
