Back but not too rested actually...the real R and R will have to come later. But I did have a nice time and it was great to get away for a little bit.

I do think radishes are ravishing...the color is such a splash in a salad! They bite just enough to make your tastebuds tingle. In the right frame, possibly antique gold, this will look ravishing. What is that saying about tickling the earth and it laughs (flowers)...?... but in this case it laughs radishes. This one was in my kitchen waiting to be painted for eternity.

To re-cap, I bought these beautiful radishes from a very lovely young farmer's wife at the local Farmer's Market last year with every intention of painting them. (as opposed to eating them...artist's do that....buy food just for painting it, silly us!!) Well, as usual, life gets in the way of spontaneous explosions of painting, and I ended up setting them up in a still life so I could get to them even if they collapsed from age. Sure enough, it has taken me many months, but here they are!!! Worth the wait and fun to paint!!

The farmer's wife told me they were called "Easter Egg Radishes" for their size, shapes and colors. I had never heard of this before, but I do think they are gorgeous. I did throw in the smaller red one for bright contrast.

Getting there...the little roots coming off of them all over the place have been a bit tricky to do. There is a bit more to be done on the plate on the left and nearest foreground, but then it will be finished. Next time!!!

In case someone out there is wondering with frustration about fewer blog posts from me this past couple of weeks, there is an explanation. We've had a couple of medical issues requiring surgery around here. The first was my husband's knee surgery last week and he is doing very well. The second was a cyst that has been causing me a lot of discomfort for some time now...and that was removed yesterday, to my great relief. Now that we are on the road to recovery I am feeling I can get back to the easel! Hurray!

Now about the "Easter Egg Radishes." I bought them at the farmer's market early last summer. The darling young farmer's wife who sold them to me actually called them, "Easter Egg Radishes!" I had never heard this name for radishes before, but she said they are named this because they are big and colorful and have sort of an oval shape. When I set up this still life I threw in one of the regular red radishes for balance and some brightness, and I had every intention of painting this last year, but time and duties interfered. Fortunately, I took some pictures of them and now I can relive the excitement I felt when looking at how fun and wonderful they are. I only was able to get started on them today....quite a ways to go....more tomorrow!!
